About This Site
|
Our goal is to produce a web
site where you, the "everyday consumer", can obtain an
independent, comprehensive reference guide and tutorial on DVD and
related home theater technologies. We explain the technology in
hopefully what is everyday English, and provide additional details and
links for those wishing to find more details and background
information.
This site is designed for consumers new to DVD as well as for the
video/audio/movie enthusiasts who may be already familiar with the DVD
format. More importantly, we designed it
for busy, family-oriented, and mainstream consumers in mind. To
this end, our goal is to provide basic information that is most useful
first, then supplement with more detailed information on a follow-up
page and external
links to other web sites.
For our readers who are new to
DVD technology, we offer a quick DVD
overview, followed by a DVD
Tutorial, DVD-Video
tutorial, and DVD-Audio
tutorial. For those who wish to understand more about home
theater, read our surround
sound format primer, THX
overview, A/V
receiver buying guide, and Dolby
Headphone overview.
For readers interested in buying a DVD player, a DVD
player buying guide is offered, followed by reviews
of some DVD players, recommendations
of specific DVD players, and a listing
of special offers and discounts for DVD players through our
affiliated online merchants.
For readers wishing to keep up with DVD and home theater news, we
provide a list of news
highlights. If you have questions regarding DVD and home theater,
check our our FAQs (Frequently Asked
Questions) page (with answers!). Finally, we compiled a list of DVD, Digital
TV-HDTV, and home theater manufacturer
links and links to some other web sites
that may be of interest.
We set out to design a web site that is easy to navigate, allowing our
readers to quickly find the information that are of interest to
them. Near the top of each page, we use tabs to organize the
site content into logical categories. When the reader puts the
cursor over a tab, that tab is highlighted and a "sub-menu"
appears just below the tab, highlighting the contents under each tab
category. The reader can click on a "sub-menu"
selection to directly navigate to that page.
In addition to our goal of
producing an informative and useful web site for DVD and home theater,
we are making this web site
family-friendly, where kids can safely navigate without stumbling on
objectionable and offensive language, or the (so-called) "adult"
DVD titles. Good examples of this principle applied are our
DVD New
Releases and
Upcoming Releases pages. We only list blockbuster, mainstream, and
family-oriented titles, as we try to cater to busy families and mainstream
DVD collectors who do not have the time or desire to peruse through
literally several hundreds of DVD title releases each month only to look for
the handful of blockbuster and mainstream titles.
This web site is supported by
readers like you in three ways:
First, bookmark our site.
Second, you can refer our web site to a family member, friend, or colleague who you know
is interested in buying a DVD player, interested in DVD and home
theater technology, and/or interested in collecting DVDs. Simply
send them our URL/link in an
e-mail, or tell them verbally (our address is hopefully easy enough to
remember):
http://TimeForDVD.com
Your personal word-of-mouth referral goes a
long way in helping us expand our readership.
Third, as you browse through our web
site and wish to buy products (e.g., DVD players, home theater
equipment, DVD movies, or anything really) online
from our affiliated
online merchants (e.g., Amazon.com,
BestBuy.com,
Buy.com,
Barnes&Nobles.com,
Crutchfield.com, GoodGuys.com, hifi.com,
JandR.com,
OneCall.com,
and SonyStyle.com), click on the link, and purchase
the product from them. We get a small commission when you
click through from our site and make a purchase. This commission
helps us defray our costs of hosting and producing content for this web
site. So if you regularly purchase products from online
merchants anyway,
please start here
first. Click
here to see the complete list of affiliated
online merchants. Thank you for your support. It is
most appreciated.
We premiered this site on
February 29, 2000 (a leap day). There is a lot of ground we
want to cover and we will continue to roll out new feature articles
on topics like: home theater introduction and setup guide, an A/V
receiver buying guide, home theater loudspeaker buying guide, DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD
(SACD)
hardware reviews. It is our hope that you
find this web site useful and informative. If you have suggestions of
any kind, feel free to send us an e-mail at:
Suggestion@TimeForDVD.com
Sincerely,
Co-Founders of TimeForDVD.com
