Summary:
"Why would you want to marry
me for anyhow?"
"So I can kiss you anytime I
want".
Reese Witherspoon plays Melonie, an up and coming
fashion designer in New York City who just put on a reasonably successful
fashion show of her latest collection. Her boyfriend, the mayor's
son and one of the most eligible bachelors of New York City, has just
asked her to be his bride. With the world at her feet, can things
possibly get any better for Melonie? It can certainly get
worse. For one, the mayor is less than thrilled with her son's
surprise engagement to a relatively unknown woman.
To break the exciting news to her estranged
parents, Melonie returns "home" to Alabama. But even
before that happens, we learn that Melonie is still married to her
childhood sweetheart, Jake! When Melonie encounters him at their
backwoods home of many years ago, he seems to be the same loser that he
was years ago when she left him. Desperate to move on with her life,
she does everything possible to get him to sign the divorce papers.
After spending some time in Sweet Home Alabama, Melonie feels
confused about her feelings for Jake. Did Jake change? Does
Melonie still want the future that is waiting for her in New York City?
Sweet Home Alabama is heart-felt romantic
comedy that is sure to win your heart. You can't help but fall in
love with Reese Witherspoon's character, as she tries to clean up her past
to begin a new life. Reese Witherspoon is perfect for her part,
while Candice Bergen wonderfully portrayed the mayor of New York
City. Get out your tissue box and enjoy this movie with your loved
one. I enjoyed it very much, and took delight in the down-to-earth
characters.
