DVD fans everywhere have much to celebrate --
Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have announced
the release date for Episode I The Phantom Menace, the first Star
Wars movie to be released to DVD, for October 16. This highly
anticipated release comes as a 2-disc set that features over six hours of
bonus material.
Specifications
The DVD will be THX digitally mastered for superior sound
and picture quality, though nothing else is formally announced yet with
regards to the video and audio transfer. We do expect the video
transfer to be anamorphic
widescreen, and hope that the audio will include a THX
Surround EX soundtrack. After all, it is one of the first theatrical
releases to feature Dolby Digital EX (the cinematic version of THX Surround
EX). Stay tuned...
