Summary: Leonardo DiCaprio is Frank Abagnale, Jr., a master impersonator and con man who pioneers and specializes in cashing fraudulent personal and payroll checks.
For personal gain and profit, he impersonates an airline pilot, a medical doctor, and a
lawyer in order to cash his homemade fraudulent checks. For personal
pleasure, he womanizes unsuspecting females with these personas. Tom Hanks plays a hardline FBI special agent by the name of Carl Hanratty, who pioneers the investigation of check fraud within the bureau and chases Frank unrelentingly over the years, across the Atlantic Ocean, to nab this pest of society.
Catch Me If You Can is inspired by true life events.
But with a run time of 2:21, the movie seems rather drawn out. I lost interest somewhere in the middle of the film until near the end of the film due to the recurring themes.
It got too repetitive. The filmmakers overdid it. As if that wasn’t enough, the stick-figure animation sequence during the opening credits prepares us for the movie’s main theme.
The best part of the film for me was reading the follow-up text of what happens to the characters after the movie ends.
Leonardo DiCaprio did a fine job portraying the ever-changing lead character.
Tom Hanks also did a fine job as the persistent FBI agent. Their performances were nothing near their earth-shattering performances
for their bigger movies.
Director Stephen Spielburg, who I have a lot of respect for, seemed to have “wasted” his talent on this film.
It is not a film that someone of Stephen Spielburg’s caliber can make much of a difference in a directing role.
DreamWorks dedicates a
second disc for the bonus materials in this 2-disc release. But
since most of the additional programming are featurettes, the bonus
materials are not as rich as the 2-disc release would suggest. Too
bad there is not a director's audio commentary by Steven Spielburg.
Special Features: "Catch Me If You
Can: Behind the Camera" featurette; "Cast Me If You Can: The
Casting of the Film" featurette; "Scoring Me if You Can"
featurette with composer John Williams; "Frank Abagnale: Between
Reality and Fiction" featurette; "The FBI Perspective"
featurette; "Catch Me If You Can: In Closing" featurette;

or better. Only the highest number of channels of surround sound
format is listed (e.g., Dolby Digital 5.1). If there are both Dolby
Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 soundtracks, then both are listed. All
DVD-Video discs are backwards compatible with stereo-only playback
