Summary: "Woman On Top" is a satisfying romantic comedy, starring the irresistibly
charming Penelope Cruz as a master chef searching for a new life away from her
unfaithful husband.  This lighthearted romance comedy is spiced up with the
catchy tunes of the Brazilian Bossa Nova musical score.  Be sure to share this
movie with the one you love.

The Story

Since a child, Isabella Oliveira is cursed with a severe case of motion sickness.  However, she is blessed with amazing beauty and a talent for cooking food that melts the hearts of those who taste her culinary creations.  She meets and marries her first love, Toninho (Murilo Benício).  He makes her the chef of his restaurant but stifles her by shutting her in the kitchen.  At home, he doesn't enjoy being on the bottom, though she insists that she has to be on top due to her severe motion sickness.

One night, Isabella catches her husband with another woman.  Determined to leave this mentally and emotionally stifling relationship, she travels to San Francisco and tries to take up on one of the many job offers that has been extended to her while working in her husband's restaurant.  After being turned away by these contacts, she takes a position as an instructor at a culinary school.  With her irresistible beauty, she attracts a number of men to her class, including a local TV show producer, Cliff Lloyd (Mark Feuerstein).

Mesmerized by Isabella's beauty, charm and culinary talents, Cliff offers her to star in her own cooking show.  Without many other promising options, Isabella takes Cliff up on his offer and begins to work on her cooking show.  The show becomes a huge success in the San Francisco market, attracting more men viewers than most other cooking shows.

Desperate to win his wife back, Toninho travels to San Francisco and is surprised to find Isabella on TV.  Things begin to get really complicated for Isabella when she becomes torn between her newly separated husband and Cliff, her TV show producer who has more than just a pure professional interest in her.  We'll leave at that and let you find you which man Isabella will end up being on top of.

The Extras

There isn't much by way of extra material -- just a recipe booklet, a couple of theatrical trailers, three TV spots, and theatrical trailers for six other Fox films.

Video & Audio

The image quality of this anamorphic widescreen DVD is very good.  The colors are accurate and saturated, while shadow details are well rendered.  The Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound is very well balanced and effective.  The dialogue is clear, while the cool Brazilian music score effectively engages the viewer in this Bossa Nova styled romantic comedy.

Recommendation

Penelope Cruz is perfect in her role as the irresistibly charming and sexy Isabella.  The Brazilian musical score that frequently accompanies this romantic comedy is equally beautiful and mesmerizing.  As a romantic comedy, "Woman On Top" is satisfying and worth sharing with the one you love.
