Summary: Oz Oseransky is simple, sweet and lovable dentist who has the worst
luck of being married to a leeching and evil wife.  Adding to his problem, James
"The Tulip" Tudesky, a hit man who just gotten out of jail, moves in next doors.
Almost immediately, Oz's life turns upside-down.  This is a side-splitting comedy
starring Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry.  Though there is a fair amount of
interesting extra materials, the image quality of the DVD transfer could stand
   for some improvement.

The Story

Nicholas "Oz" Oseransky (Matthew Perry) is a sweet and lovable dentist who has the worse luck of being married to the leeching and evil Sophie (Rosanna Arquette).  He leads a loveless life and puts up with his wife and mother-in-law who drive him insane day after day.

Adding to his problem, a new neighbor, Jimmy Jones (Bruce Willis), moves in next door and turns out to be James "The Tulip" Tudesky, a hit man who had just gotten out of jail.  The fear seems to suck the life out of Oz.  When he shares this concern with his wife, she unexpectedly takes delight in finding out that the neighbor is a famous hit man.

Jimmy forces himself on Oz to learn more about his next door neighbor.  He realizes that he likes Oz because he is simple and harmless.  Sophie, however, works up her own plan.  She tasks Oz to alert Jimmy's rival, Janni Gogolade (Kevin Pollak), of Jimmy's whereabouts in hopes of collecting a finder's fee.  Oz's life quickly turns upside-down when he is caught in the middle of mobsters' feud.  Matthew is hilarious as he dishes up improvs during the filming.

The Extras

This DVD features an "Interview Gallery" with members of the cast and the director, a theatrical trailer, cast & crew information, and an audio commentary by director Jonathan Lynn.  In the "Interview Gallery", it is interesting to see Matthew Perry's wonderful sense of humor and his relationships with his co-stars and director.  Director Jonathan Lynn points out that the independent film company allowed him to maintain very close to the original script written by Mitchell Kapner.  This "Interview Gallery" is a must-see feature.

Video & Audio

The image quality of this DVD suffered slightly due to the low data rate of the video signal (i.e., the video was compressed too much).  The image seems a little grainy and lacks full detail in some scenes, though not to the point of being a distraction for most viewers.  The digital surround sound was wonderful in its reproduction of the jazz-oriented soundtrack.

Recommendation

This movie has interesting twists in the plot that keeps the audience guessing what will happen next.  The amount of extra materials is fair, considering the price.  The image quality could be better.  But if you like comedies with a mobster theme, like "My Cousin Vinny", then...
