Summary: Billy Hoyle (Woody Harrelson) and his girlfriend Gloria (Rosie Perez)
want easy money and are on the run from the people they owe money.  Billy
hustles to make ends meet and joins forces with fellow hustler Sydney Deane
(Wesley Snipes) to further their profit.  Basketball fans will sure to love this
   hilarious sports-gangster comedy.

The Story

Billy Hoyle (Woody Harrelson), a basketball hustler in Los Angeles, wants to make easy money and to please his girlfriend Gloria (Rosie Perez), whose goal is to be on the Jeopardy Show.  They are also on the run from gangsters to whom they owe money.  Billy and Sydney Deane (Wesley Snipes) are competitive and think of themselves as the best in the business.  They have a few run-ins at the court hustling others and dodging trouble.  Soon they realize that it would be more profitable if they team up.  This hustling duo is explosive, dangerous and hilarious to watch as they hustles their way across Los Angeles.

The Extras

The bonus materials include a music video by the rap musician Riff, which is exceptionally well done.  The movie has also been re-edited to include a deleted scene, which blends well nicely into the existing scenes.  Rounding out are two theatrical trailers and one TV spot.  Considering the price, we were hoping for more bonus materials.

Video & Audio

The image quality of this anamorphically enhanced widescreen DVD is first rate, considering the movie was made eight years prior to its DVD transfer.  The image is very detailed and the colors are beautifully saturated.  The soundtrack is only presented in its original theatrical Dolby Surround release.  That is, there is no Dolby Digital 5.1-channel audio track.

Recommendation

"White Men Can't Jump" is a slam dunk, action, comedy hit that competitive sport fans will enjoy.  Though it is sports-oriented and portrays the "hustling" world, the dialog's extensive use of street-wise foul language can be troublesome to some viewers.
