The Story
Two murders of pre-teen girls are discovered in sunny San Juan, Puerto Rico. On the last San Sebastian festival day, the police captain Victor Benezet (Morgan Freeman) politely asks the prominent corporate tax attorney Henry Hearst (Gene Hackman) to stop by the station to confirm and clarify some details of his earlier statement. However, when Henry arrives, the interview with Victor and detective Owens (Thomas Jane) turn into a murder accusations against Henry. Meanwhile, Henry's gorgeous, young wife, Chantal (Monica Bellucci) is at a fundraiser across the street, trying hard to hide her concerns when her husband's appearance is delayed.
As
the interrogation continues, Henry is caught in more lies and reveals more chilling secrets about himself. All the facts and circumstances point
towards his guilt. Henry starts to be antagonistic and accuses
Victor of trying to frame him to advance his own career. The style
of the film is unique and refreshing, as the play in cinematography allows the audience to
re-live the character's flashbacks of the incident as he
chooses. This is a great murder mystery that keeps the audience
guessing what new evidence will surface next.
In the full-length audio commentary, Director Hopkins and Morgan Freeman explain how the movie came about, the choice of the cast, location, and the various aspects of filming. The making-of featurette gives a summary of the small cast and limited funding in making this truly great murder mystery film.
Video & Audio
The image quality of this anamorphic widescreen DVD is very good. The colors are accurate and saturated. The Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound is well balanced. The dialogue was clear while the soundtrack effectively engages the viewer.
