The Story
Mr. Conductor (Alec Baldwin) narrates the story of Shining Time Station and the magic of the Island of Sodor. Sir Topham Hatt and Lady Hatt are off on their vacation, and Mr. Conductor is requested to supervise the Island of Sodor and to keep Diesel #10 under control while he's there helping the steam engines. Of course, Diesel has his sinister plans to take over Sodor by destroying the long lost steam engine named Lady. Without the gold dust, Mr. Conductor feels that he could not be really useful in saving the magic of the Island of Sodor and therefore the Shining Time town. Face with an oblique situation, Mr. Conductor marches on, determined to find clues to solve the riddle to get to the source of gold dust. Meanwhile, Thomas who is small but a very useful engine overcomes his fear and is determined to protect the steam engines by helping Mr. C find more gold dust.
Diesel
recruits Splatter and Dodge to help him conquer the Island of Sodor.
He tries intimidation, capturing Mr. Conductor, and destroying the magic
railroad. Mr. Conductor seeks Junior's help. Junior
unfortunately spends the last bit of gold dust to bring himself and Lily
(Mara Wilson) who is Burnett's (Peter Fonda) granddaughter to the
Island. Once there, Lily and Thomas together piece together the
clues to bring Lady special coal for her steam engine. Thomas, Mr. Conductor, and their friends
cooperate and persistently work through their problems to save Shining
Time and the Island of Sodor. The young set will learn the
value of friendship and courage to overcome any obstacles.
Video & Audio
The beautiful cinematography of Shining Time scenes and the scale model of Island of Sodor are captured vividly in this digitally mastered video. The colors are accurate and saturated, while shadow details are excellent. The Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound is very well balanced.
Recommendation
Young children will love to watch their favorite tank engine, Thomas, and his friends repeatedly, which serves to reinforce the valuable real-life lessons presented in the feature film. "Thomas And The Magic Railroad" is a great title for the younger set.
