Two American cabinet members are held hostage by the guerrilla fighters after their helicopter crashes in a Central American country. Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his team are the best in the country to conduct the rescue effort. The CIA and his former acquaintance Dillon (Carl Weathers) recruits Dutch to infiltrate the guerrilla fighters and bring back the hostages. With the gruesome task at hand, Dutch and his team propel into the tropical jungle without any back up due to the threat of the guerrillas and political pressures. They quickly locate the downed helicopter, and Billy tracks the team to the guerrilla campground. On the way, the team unexpectedly discovers that there are six dead American soldiers. Dutch starts to question the reasons for his team to be there.
Upon
arriving at the campground, Dutch witnesses the execution of the second
hostage. The team storms the ground, and Dillon takes Anna (Elpidia
Carrillo) into custody believing that he can get information from
her. As the rescue team heads for helicopter extraction rendezvous
point, Hawkins
(Shane Black) becomes victim to an unknown enemy that mysteriously kills
and takes the body. Being a good friend, Mac (Bill Duke) swears
to avenge his friend by tracking down the enemy. One by one, the
team members are hunted down. Dutch is left
to save us from this unimaginable alien hunter roaming for his next
victim. The creative and crafty ways in which Dutch prepares to hunt the
predator are amazing and we'll leave the ending for you to enjoy.
The image quality of this anamorphic widescreen DVD is generally good, though there are some dust specs in the opening scene and picture graininess when Dutch drops into the water. The green and brown colors of the tropical jungle are accurate and saturated, while shadow details are well rendered.
This DVD comes with a number of soundtracks, including both DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1. Both 5.1-channel surround sound formats are well balanced and effective. The 5.1-channel re-mix is aggressive as it uses the surround channels to envelop the audience in the action sequences. As you can guess, I prefer the DTS soundtrack. It simply sounds better.
