Summary: When FBI special agent Grant's career is on the line, and the mission
he's in charge goes wrong, life couldn't get any worse.  Wrong.  He finds himself
in the middle of a mob vendetta where he's a pawn for the vengeful Serlano
who has kidnapped his son.  This action-thriller is comically enhanced by the
appearance of Helen Slater who did a great performance as the purely nice
   flight attendant.

The Story

In the world of the mafia, even the most respected federal agent can be persuaded to do the unthinkable act.  FBI special agent Zach Grant (Russell Crowe) is blamed for a mission gone wrong when a rookie agent kills a member of the Serlano crime family and his "skinhead" clan.  Mafia kingpin Frank Serlano (Michael Lerner) uses Grant to get to Yuji of Yakuza (Etsushi Toyokawa) who Serlano believes ordered the brutal murder of his only son.

Grant finds himself deep in the middle of a mob vendetta with his son Eric's life being threatened.  In a race to bring Yuji to Serlano to trade for his son across the United States, Grant's situation is furthered complicated by the optimistically polite flight attendant (Helen Slater) that seems to hang over him relentlessly.  Meanwhile, he is pursued by the Serlano's ruthless assassins, the Yakuza, and the FBI.  Time is running out for Grant, and there is "no way back".

The otherwise serious action thriller is surprisingly laugh-out-loud humoruous due to the great performance of Helen Slater as the flight attendant who always sees the bright side of every situation.

The Extras

There are four theatrical trailers: Air Force One, Donnie Brasco, Bad Boys, and The Quick and The Dead (starring Russell Crowe).  The talent files features information on director Frank Cappello, Russell Crowe, Michael Lerner, and Helen Slater.

Video & Audio

The image quality of this anamorphic widescreen DVD is good.  The colors are accurate and saturated.  The Dolby Surround is well balanced and effective, but the confrontational scenes could have been greatly enhanced with Dolby Digital 5.1.  The dialogue is clear through out this film.

Recommendation

"No Way Back" is a action/comedy thriller that will take you into the mafia world of vengeance and revenge.
