In beautiful upscale suburbia, Fred (Michael Ironside) has provided a nice home for his wife, Maggie (Ellen Barkin), and his stepdaughter, Rosanne (Monica Keena). Maggie and Fred's shaky marriage and Fred's being a dysfunctional alcoholic make a very hostile environment for Rosanne at home. To further complicate the situation for her daughter, Maggie falls in love with a bartender and moves in with him.
At school, the ostracized Vincent (Vincent Kartheiser) is infatuated with Rosanne and secretly follows her to take her pictures. Rosanne is a popular cheerleader dating a football player, Jimmy (James DeBello), who adores her and would do anything she ask. Life is at least bearable for Rosanne, that is until her stepfather makes sexual advances at her. Traumatized by the horrific incident, Rosanne seeks revenge. She convinces Jimmy to sneak out of a pep rally with her to help her kill her stepfather, in an attempt to ease her pain.
Upon arriving home after the pep rally, Rosanne is shocked to find that her mother is charged with Fred's murder and now must deal with the decision of saving her mother or herself. This powerful movie takes a look at the lives behind the polished look of beautiful and perfect suburbia. It touches on betrayal, revenge, redemption, and self-discovery. Innocence is lost, but humanity is found.
The only bonus material is a full length audio commentary by director Rob Schmidt and actor Michael Ironside. The image quality of this anamorphic widescreen DVD good, though the image looks soft and lacking detail at times. The colors are accurate and saturated, while shadow detail is good. The Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound is effective.
